About Saint Petersburg

St. Petersburg was the former capital of imperial Russia and the home of its czars. The city has many splendid architectural treasures, theatres and art museums and of course the world famous Hermitage. It is the largest northern city on the planet. Saint Petersburg is often called the Venice of the North, because it lies on 44 islands which are divided by a web of 86 rivers and canals.Over 100 palaces of the Russian nobility and a great many cathedrals and unique churches built by the greatest architects of the time still remain in Saint Petersburg. Most of them are open to public now.
Saint Petersburg is famous for its "white nights" - a period when there is as much light during night time as during the day time and many bridges are raised, so that numerous strolling romantics can enjoy the sight of ships passing down the Neva river - city waterway - all night long.

Peterhof (reserve a ticket)

Peterhof is one of the oldest summer residences in the surroundings of St. Petersburg. Peterhof means "Peter’s Court". It was founded in 1710, when the Peter and Paul Fortress lost its military significance, and Peter the Great started to build another fortress on Kotlin Island to protect St.Petersburg from the city. The fountains are connected by means of a water main with springs welling out in the Ropshinsky Heights.
Located on the steep slope in front of the palace, the Grand Cascade of fountains is embellished with bronze sculptures and bas-reliefs. It consists of 64 fountains. In the center of the cascade there is a famous sculptural group "Samson tearing the lion’s jaws", symbolizing the victory of Russia over Sweden. In the Lower park the Marli Palace, the Hermitage and the Monplaisir Palace were constructed.

The Organizing Committee of the APM 2018 would like to invite all participants and registered accompanying persons to take part in the School-Conference dinner, which will take a place in a trendy, youth and creative space of the restaurant "Farm Benua", which is located in 20 min. walking distance from the APM Venue. The restaurant received its name from the model Benua farm, located in the XIX century in the present garden of Benua. Today, "Benua Farm" is an object of cultural heritage of regional importance, it was recreated according to the surviving drawings and adapted for modern use.
